Our family loves playing Uno. It has helped us through many a car ride, airport layover, and snow day.
But sometimes you get stuck in a 3-hour marathon game because someone keeps dropping the dreaded Wild Draw +4 card every time someone shouts “UNO” and you get stuck in some vortex of Uno Hell where the game legit never ends.
Guess what? Most likely, you’ve been using that card completely wrong.
You heard me right. You can’t just play that card willy-nilly whenever you want. There are rules, friends, and if you’re like most of the internet, you’ve been doing it wrong.
Recently, one Uno aficionado uncovered a rule that will forever change the way you play your favorite card game.
LaToya McCaskill Stallings was bored one afternoon, and decided to actually read the rules of Uno. This is what she uncovered:
“Did y’all know that you can only play the Draw 4 Wild card IF you have NO other cards that can be played??! AND if you suspect that someone has illegally played this card, they have to show you their hand. AND if they in fact played the card illegally they must draw 4, but If not, the person who challenged the play must DRAW 6?”
Mind. Blown.
That means all previous games of Uno are null and void, and new victors are about to be crowned.
Game on, friends.
