Baby, I have prayed for you—even before I knew who you would be.
I prayed I would be a mom one day when I was too little to know what I was praying for and again when I really thought my body would not be able to carry a baby. I prayed for you.
I prayed every day as you grew in my belly that you would be healthy, happy, and strong.
I prayed at every doctor’s appointment and scan that I would hear your heartbeat loud and strong.
I prayed for your arrival—for you to be safe and for you to come already so I could meet you.

I have spent hours in your nursery room rocking you back and forth singing made-up words and prayers for you. Prayers that I would be enough. That I would meet you where you needed me to be. That my strengths and weaknesses would be made to fit you like a puzzle, and I could lift you up.
I have prayed for you to stay small. I have prayed for you to grow big.
I have prayed for you to sleep. I have prayed for you to eat.
I have prayed that you would be careful. I have prayed that you will be adventurous.
I have prayed that you will be kind. I have prayed that you will be assertive.
I have prayed that you would quiet down. I have prayed that you would speak up and share more with me.
I have prayed with you for all of our family members—each by name that they would be happy, healthy, and strong for whatever they may face that day.
I have prayed for your future spouse, for your marriage, for your parenthood journey, and for your future children, that their lives will be full and that they might be healthy, happy, and strong.
I have prayed for you my child in all the phases of your life—past, present, and future—because I was blessed to have a Grammy, who opened my mind and heart to see that our God is timeless.
He hears every prayer—past, present, and future.
He will be with you in every life situation you face, big or small.

For our God knows the number of hairs upon your head and He knitted you together in my womb.
So I pray as I rock you to sleep so that I may cover you in a blanket of prayers to last your whole life through.
